They might ask you a number of questions, perform some routine neurological tests with eye movements, coordination, balance, and sensory nerves, and then decide if additional diagnostics are needed. Maybe they will schedule you for an MRI or CT scan, but these might not be necessary if your symptoms are easy to diagnose without a brain image. If the doc wants to get an image, a MRI is a better choice - it does a better job at showing blood vessels and it does not expose your brain to the huge amounts of radiation that are needed for a CT scan. Avoid a CT scan whenever possible - they create a very high risk of brain cancer in the future.
There are a variety of drugs for treating migraines, but none of them are certain to work well on any particular individual. If the doc prescribes a pain med, consider asking the doc for trial prescriptions for several different drugs so you can try them out and see which one works the best.

When I went to my first appointment they did a series of test in the office and ask a lot of questions.
They will ask a lot of questions. From how frequent they are to how pain full they are. If you have a warning before they will happen and what happens when you have one. What help and does not help. They some time will have you go in for either a MRI or CAT scan depending on how the visit goes.
If they find that they might be an underlying issue that is causing the migraines, that is when they will discuss other testing.
They will also determine what would be the correct meds for your treatment. They have many different methods to treat them.
